The story begins in 1987, depicting the harrowing journey of children who survive a massacre in their village. Led by Mamere (Arnold Oceng), they trek hundreds of miles on foot to reach the Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya. During this journey, their brother Theo sacrifices himself to enemy soldiers so the others can hide.
